About this project

WildAtlas is a collection of virtual tours that bring to life the stories of Aotearoa New Zealand’s National Parks, protected areas and special places. It is part of the Three Brother’s Agreement collaboration between Tsinghua University, Lincoln University and Kunming University of Science and Technology.

This project is developed as part of the exhibition on Aotearoa New Zealand’s National Parks which was jointly hosted in Beijing, with the following partners’ support and involvement.

Tsinghua University and Lincoln University host reciprocal visits

 

April 2013

Professor Yang Rui and Associate Professor Mick Abbott meet at the International Federation of Landscape Architects 50th Anniversary conference. They discuss opportunities for research and teaching collaborations between Chinese and New Zealand Landscape Architecture programs. Professor Yang Rui visits Lincoln University in July 2013.

October 2013

In October 2013, Associate Professor Mick Abbott visits Tsinghua University to participate in the Landscape Architecture of Tomorrow International Forum.

2014
Establishment of the ‘Three Brothers’ Research Partnership

 

April 2014

‘Three Brothers’ Research Partnership formed between Tsinghua University, Kunming University of Science and Technology, and Lincoln University. Its purpose is to advance teaching and research collaborations in Protected Areas and National Parks between China and New Zealand.

December 2014

In December 2014.Lincoln University hosts Chinese Delegation of National Park Managers. Visit includes specialist lectures from Lincoln University and Tsinghua University researchers.

Tsinghua University and Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture host visit from New Zealand Delegation

 

October 2015

Tsinghua University and Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture host visit from New Zealand Delegation. Visit includes specialist lectures from Lincoln University and Tsinghua University researchers. Includes research visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Beijing and, Meili Snow Mountain National Park, Potatso National Park and Shilin UNESCO World Heritage Site in Yunnan Province.

Collaborative post-graduate research begins comparing Meili Snow Mountain National Park in Yunnan Province with Aoraki Mount Cook National Park in New Zealand.

March 2016.Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture and Lincoln University discuss opportunity to host exhibition of New Zealand National Parks at the Museum.

Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape architecture, Beijing Forestry University and Lincoln University work together to develop exhibition on the development of New Zealand’s National Parks

 

May 2017

Lincoln University researchers present at the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture hosted by Tsinghua University School of Architecture; Beijing Forestry University School of Landscape Architecture; and Peking University College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. Meetings with Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture and Beijing Forestry University to finalise exhibition materials. July 2017.Lincoln University host delegation from Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture.  Confirm the exhibition details and select the exhibits.

September 2017

Exhibition on New Zealand National Parks opens at Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture. Research Symposium discussing New Zealand and Chinese approaches to Protected Areas held at Beijing Forestry University.
